Furniture Foolishness: On owning a collection of ottomans and footrests of varying formality, height, width, and portability.
Giving visitors the pleasure of viewing the soles of my shoes (or feet!) while putting my feet on an ottoman just doesn’t seem very hospitable, so I buy footrests instead. My favorite measures eight inches off the ground and allows me to cross my legs at the ankles instead of dangling from my favorite club chair (which is also too deep without a pillow at my back). How many footrests do I need to feel comfortable? One in every room with a chair, preferably. Are they fashionable? Are they practical? Maybe. Can I find what I want easily?
